Our project is reaching an exciting phase as partners are actively exploring and finalizing locations for the Nature-based Solutions Learning Sites. It’s inspiring to witness these sites beginning to take shape! The transnational learning happening within our teams is proving incredibly valuable, as partners discuss challenges, share innovative solutions, and inspire each other. The energy and collaboration across borders are driving the project forward, making this a truly rewarding journey for everyone involved.
The aim of the project is to enhance understanding of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and their contribution to improving environmental conditions in the Baltic Sea. The long-term goal is that this increased knowledge will lead to more frequent and effective use of NBS in planning processes, as well as in land and seascape management. Throughout the project, 17 NBS Learning Sites are being developed, with a focus on:
The project features two key pilots:
The partnership includes biosphere reserves and universities from across the Baltic Sea Region, as these institutions are dedicated to developing sustainable solutions. They engage a wide range of local stakeholders to enhance sustainability and increase ocean literacy, though they require demonstration areas and opportunities for knowledge generation.
As the end-users of the project’s outcomes, biosphere reserves ensure long-term durability. The development of the NBS Learning Sites involves collaboration with municipal technical staff, university programs focused on landscape approaches, students, NGOs, and interest groups. After a joint evaluation and refinement of the pilots, the project will expand the implementation among partners, showcasing best practices beyond the partnership.
An overview of the project is available as a brochure. This brochure serves as a quick reference for anyone interested in understanding of the project’s mission and its impact on sustainability in the Baltic Sea region.
