CREWS
The project CREWS helps public authorities empower and engage local communities in crisis and disaster management to enhance response efforts and build a strong, active civil society.
Project summary
The Baltic Sea Region faces increasingly complex disasters that can put pressure on existing disaster response capacities. CREWS addresses the challenge of how public authorities can work more effectively with civil society and communities when additional support is needed. The project brings public and civil actors together to develop a joint approach for cooperation in disaster management. Through transnational exchange and joint development, CREWS is creating and testing a collaboration model and a digital tool to help authorities and civil society coordinate more effectively before and during disasters. The project is already generating practical insights by bringing partners and stakeholders together to identify needs, exchange experience and shape solutions that can be adapted to different regional contexts. The vision is a more resilient Baltic Sea Region where people and communities are better prepared, know how they can contribute, and can work together with public authorities when disasters occur. In this way, CREWS contributes to a whole-of-society approach to disaster risk reduction and strengthens a common culture of preparedness and security.
