GlassCircle Final Conference: Exploring full cycle circular economy for glass fiber industry

The GlassCircle project tackled the environmental challenges in the glass fibre industry by addressing waste management and promoting circular economy principles. Glass fibre production generates significant residues, much of which ends up in landfills, causing pollution, inefficiency, and increased costs.
To combat these issues, GlassCircle developed the GlassCircle Database, a matchmaking tool connecting companies with glass fibre residues to partners interested in reusing them. This innovative solution has already been successfully applied in real-world scenarios.
A standout achievement was the collaboration with Olympic medallist Mārtiņš Rubenis, where glass fibre waste was recycled to manufacture sleds – an inspiring example of transforming industrial waste into high-value products.
By bringing together industry leaders, experts, and public authorities, GlassCircle catalysed collaboration and innovation, paving the way for the sector’s transition from a linear to a circular economy.
The small project’s legacy continues through the core project CompositeCircle, a newly funded initiative building on GlassCircle’s success to further advance sustainability in the Baltic Sea region.
