Easy Energy
The project Easy Energy guides municipalities and enterprises on how to reduce energy consumption in existing buildings with simple and inexpensive measures, like insulation and water/electricity, and prepares energy practitioners to advise on low-tech energy-efficient solutions in the future.
In the spotlight
The final conference “Energy Solutions for Public Buildings & SMEs” took place on 29 September 2026. It brought together representatives of municipalities, business chambers, universities and vocational schools. Ruzanna Grigorjana (Policy Area Coordinator Energy), Sebastian Hentsch (Interreg Baltic Sea Region), Ronalds Saksons (Riga Planning Region) and Dr. Max Hogeforster (Hanse-Parlament) opened the event.
The first session showed why small public buildings and SMEs are often left behind in the energy transition, and how Easy Energy responds with simple, low-cost measures. ZEBAU and Hanse-Parlament presented the Easy Energy Blueprints and the Energy Practitioner training, which prepares local experts to help schools, libraries, community centres, museums and small companies cut their energy use.
In the second session, partners from Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland shared examples of Easy Energy solutions put into practice. The conference ended with the Easy Energy Awards, a Memorandum of Understanding signing to carry the results onto the EU stage, and an invitation to join the EnTRA Knowledge Community.

Project summary
Buildings in the Baltic Sea Region consume significant amounts of energy, yet many municipalities and small businesses struggle to implement energy-saving measures. Energy audits are expensive and often recommend complex solutions with long payback periods, which puts them out of reach for rural municipalities and SMEs with limited budgets.
Easy Energy set out to change this by making energy efficiency simple and affordable.
We developed low-cost, low-tech solutions for building insulation and for water, electricity and heating use, and tested them in municipal and SME buildings across the Baltic Sea Region.
In total, we counted 210 implementations: 80 in Building Insulation across 42 unique buildings, and 130 in Heating, Electricity and Water across 48 unique buildings.
We also trained local “Energy Practitioners” who now support municipalities and businesses in their communities, creating a lasting network of expertise across the region.
By making energy efficiency accessible to all, Easy Energy helps every community contribute to energy savings, regardless of its resources.
