In the Baltic Sea region, makerspaces are vibrant hubs where inventors and entrepreneurs bring ideas to life. However, these spaces often struggle with sustainability, despite the growing need for a transition to a circular economy.
Makerspaces lack the knowledge and infrastructure to adopt circular practices. The shift to circularity is costly and labour-intensive, making it hard to break away from cheaper, linear processes. The global climate crisis makes this transition even more urgent.
The "Circular Spaces" project aims to transform 15% of makerspaces in the Baltic Sea region by embedding circular business principles.
How will we do this?
- Building a Strong Consortium: Form a network of makerspaces committed to eco-design and material reuse.
- Developing a Digital Collaboration Tool: Connect makers and suppliers to share sustainable practices and materials.
- Training and Involvement: Develop a training program, train and involve 300 makers and start-ups in circular product development.
- Piloting Circular Business Ideas: Pilot at least 5 circular business ideas as proof of concept.
How It Works
We will provide:
- Collaboration: Enable collaboration through our digital tool.
- Awareness and Education: Enhance awareness and educate on circular approaches.
- Practical Support: Offer equipment, knowledge, and inspiring examples to make circular creation feasible.
Early adopters are already seeing benefits for both the environment and their businesses. The growing interest in our training program further underscores the potential for widespread adoption of these practices.
The Interreg BSR program supports our vision by providing funding and fostering transnational cooperation. This helps us share best practices and drive sustainable innovation across the Baltic Sea region.
Join us in transforming the way we create and consume, making the Baltic Sea region a model of sustainability!
