Transnational cooperation with Russia and Belarus suspended

Written by the MA/JS team

Following the Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the European Commission has suspended cooperation with Russia and Belarus in the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme with an immediate effect. The decision applies to both the Programme 2014-2020 and the Programme 2021-2027.

For the Programme 2014-2020, it means that no further payments will be made to Russia. Practical implementation of the decision is under preparation.

For the new Programme 2021-2027, applicants are requested to cease planning their applications with the participation of Russian project partners (on hold). The applicants should not involve Russian or Belarusian organisations as associated organisations in their applications either. More guidance and updates of the documents related to the new Programme will follow at a later stage.

The Commission’s decision applies also to the nine European Neighbourhood Instrument cross-border cooperation programmes (ENI CBC) involving Russia and Belarus.
