Seminar on reduction of consumption of disposable single-use cups in public catering

The growing amount of plastic waste is receiving an increasing attention around the world. In order to raise the topic of environmental cleanliness and reduction in the consumption of disposable dishes, on April 22 from 13PM to 16PM the Environment Unit of Liepaja Municipality Central Administration is holding a seminar "Implementation of the deposit-return system for cups in street trade and public events in Liepaja".

The aim of the seminar is to create a discussion with representatives of public catering sector and organizers of public events in order to evaluate the possibilities of introducing the reusable cups for drinks, which would reduce the consumption of existing disposable single-use dishes and decrease the amount of plastic waste during public events. Topics of the seminar:

• The importance of reducing plastic packaging and Liepaja's plans to reduce the consumption of single-use packaging.
• Deposit- return system at public events - how does it work?
• Implementation of deposit cups in Riga municipality: experience and challenges.
