Change(K)now! Final Event in Riga

Project: Change(K)now!
Virtual event

Description

On 10 September, the final event of the Change(K)now! project took place in Riga, bringing together representatives of municipalities, businesses, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders to discuss practical solutions for reducing waste and promoting circular economy principles.

The seminar focused on the implementation of reusable tableware deposit systems, showcasing experiences, lessons learned, and opportunities for wider adoption in public events, street trading, and the hospitality sector.

A key part of the programme was the presentation of the project's main achievements, including the newly developed Guidelines for the Implementation of Reusable Tableware Deposit Systems in Riga. Participants were introduced to practical recommendations for transitioning from single-use packaging to reusable alternatives, helping organizations reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.

The event also provided an opportunity to discuss the future regulatory framework for reusable packaging systems and the evolving European policy landscape. Experts highlighted upcoming requirements and shared insights into how municipalities and businesses can prepare for the transition towards more sustainable consumption patterns.

During the experience-sharing session, speakers presented examples and best practices from various European cities, demonstrating different approaches to organizing, operating, and scaling reusable tableware systems. These case studies illustrated both the environmental benefits and the practical considerations involved in establishing successful reuse schemes.

The seminar concluded with a networking session, enabling participants to exchange ideas, discuss challenges, and explore opportunities for future cooperation. The discussions confirmed the growing interest in reuse systems as an effective tool for reducing waste generation and supporting the transition to a more circular economy.
