Riga City Employees Receive NonHazCity3 DIY Home Renovation Guide as Christmas Gift

23 December 2025
This Christmas season, the project manager of the NonHazCity3 project in Riga City surprised municipal employees with a special gift – a DIY guide for healthier and more sustainable home renovations, presented as a symbolic “Christmas present” from the project.
Technical details

In the run-up to the holidays, municipal employees received a thoughtful and practical gift from the NonHazCity3 project team in Riga City. Instead of traditional presents, the project manager chose to share a DIY home renovation guide designed to help employees make safer, more environmentally friendly choices when improving their homes.

The initiative aims to bring the project’s messages closer to people’s everyday lives by connecting the festive season with concrete, useful advice on how to reduce harmful substances and environmental impact during renovation activities.

The DIY guide, prepared within the framework of NonHazCity3, provides easy-to-understand information and step-by-step recommendations for anyone planning or carrying out renovation works at home. Among other things, it:

  • highlights typical sources of harmful substances in construction and finishing materials;

  • offers tips on choosing safer paints, sealants, flooring and furniture;

  • explains how to improve indoor air quality during and after renovation;

  • encourages smarter resource use – reducing waste, reusing materials where possible and improving energy efficiency.

The guide is intended for non-experts and is structured in a way that allows readers to quickly find the information relevant to their situation, whether they are planning a full renovation or just small improvements.

By distributing the guide as a Christmas present, the NonHazCity3 team underlines that environmental protection and health are not abstract concepts, but part of our daily decisions at home and at work. Municipal employees, who serve residents and shape the city’s development, are seen as important multipliers of these messages.

The project team hopes that the guide will not only support healthier home environments for staff and their families, but also inspire wider discussions about sustainable renovation practices in Riga.

The digital version of the DIY guide is also available for everyone here.
