Rethinking energy in the Baltic Sea region
Establishing more sustainable and competitive energy systems that have a less harmful impact on the environment are among the core challenges for the Baltic Sea region. Two Interreg projects, AREA 21 and LowTEMP, unlock energy efficiency potential by triggering public and private strategic partnerships for energy production and management and by offering low temperature district heating technology for more efficient heating systems.
Helping spatial planners see the cultural heritage of the sea
The Interreg project BalticRIM integrates maritime cultural heritage of the Baltic Sea into maritime spatial plans to safeguard it for the future. Matthias Maluck from the State Archaeological Department of Schleswig-Holstein explains what maritime cultural heritage is and why and how it should be preserved. BalticRIM frames cultural heritage of individual countries in a transnational perspective and thus delivers territorial cohesion.

Laboratories located underground are characterised by specific geophysical, geothermal, and geological conditions, which are much different to overground laboratories.The potential of underground laboratories from the Baltic Sea region, which are often transformed from traditional mining facilities, is still left untapped, offering thriving business and employment opportunities.
