Climate change, requirement for rapid CO2 reductions and increasing customer demand for sustainable low carbon travel options are key challenges for tourism. Tourism industry needs to strengthen resilience and adapt to the rapidly changing business environment. Enhancing resilience of tourism is essential for economic and social sustainability and resilience of societies. CliNeDest engages 8 BSR destinations to co-create a Climate Smart Business Toolkit to enable tourism companies address these challenges and make a fundamental transition towards climate neutral tourism business. It will provide guidelines and tools for carbon data-based business management, decarbonizing and adaptation for companies, model for co-designing low carbon visitor experiences as well as a knowledge management model for climate smart destination development. These will be piloted in all partner destinations together with companies aiming to be in the forefront of this transition. The toolkit is targeted for destination management organisations, which support and coordinate tourism climate actions and cooperation in destinations. Through efficient involvement of target groups and cooperation with national tourism organisations and global networks, the project will accelerate the transition towards climate neutral tourism and help industry to adapt to climate change. Results of the project will fortify resilience of tourism as a source of wellbeing and enhance the BSR as a sustainable destination.
