Stimulating the effects of transport: first project kicks off!

20 Dec 2016

Transport is at the core of the TENTacle Project, which aims at capitalizing on the new EU transport policy instrument (TEN-T-core network corridors) and includes 22 partners from nine countries in the Baltic Sea Region lead by Region Blekinge in Sweden. As a result of the event the project partners became equipped for project implementation. This, among other things, included Interreg Baltic Sea Region expectations towards the project and technical project implementation requirements.

The Baltic Sea Region is crossed by three core transport network corridors, which together have the potential to stimulate positive effects beyond the pure transport sector and beyond the immediate territories they cross. Opening it up for a broader group of stakeholders and a wider geographical area requires tackling of capacity challenges related with insufficient awareness, engagement, knowledge and interacting abilities of the relevant public and market players.

Rita Merca from Vidzeme planning region in Latvia stated “There is a crucial need to support decision makers in their work in implementing the new EU policy transport instrument.”

Alf Johansen from Innovation Circle Network in Norway stated “The needs of local and smaller municipalities are very often neglected. It is important to support rural and smaller municipalities in their development activities.”

Project partners will study possible advantages of the proximity of the core network corridors that may improve the region’s connectivity and interoperability.
