Technical details

On April 10, Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts invited various organizations, institutions, and business representatives to a meeting and open discussion about one of the most pressing topics in Europe—the employment and integration of Ukrainian refugees and other third-country nationals .

The event about the Lithuanian job market and its accessibility to foreigners was organized within the framework of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region international project Prosper BSR , which aims to bring together business support organizations in the attempt to integrate refugees and immigrants into the job market and to ensure the recruitment of skilled workers.

In the framework of the project, Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts signed cooperation agreements with Caritas Lithuania (Vilnius Archdiocese Caritas), Lithuanian Red Cross Society, Lithuanian Refugee Council, Diversity Development Group, International House Vilnius, NGO Information and Support Center, WoW University and Lithuanian Innovation Center.

Representatives of the organizations and members of Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, VarÄ—nos pienelis and Transekspedicija, were invited to share their insights and experiences in recruiting foreigners, to hear the needs and challenges of other businesses, to learn how to prepare and involve people who already have education and skills in filling the labor gaps.

“Lithuania, Vilnius too, is experiencing a labor shortage. While there is a discussion about what would help in the long term, today we need to talk about the processes of bringing labor from abroad. Such processes often take up to 3-4 months for the employer. Is this the right length of the process? From the discussion of the Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, I take away the message that at this stage it is not necessary to create new services and activities, but to communicate more”, said the head of International House Vilnius, IndrÄ— LauÄŤienÄ—.

Dovydas Buslavičius, Project Manager of the Education Exchanges Support Foundation, presented the program of foreign internships in Lithuania. Chamber member, Mykolas Romeris University, participates in this program by helping to select foreign students for internships at Lithuanian companies. According to Jurgita BraĹľinskienÄ—, Director of the Administration Department of the Lithuanian
Public Employment Service in Vilnius, “the services of the Employment Service
in the field of integration of foreigners are complex; they include separate
services for the jobseeker and for the company, involve social partners.” Here

Vilnius Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts has been participating as a partner in the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project Prosper BSR since 2002. The idea of Prosper BSR came about out of the need to help refugees from Ukraine with a professional background and to address the shortage of skilled workers in many EU countries.
