19 March 2025
What's going on in the project. Greetings from workshop in Turku.
Technical details

Polish project partners Justyna Siemionow and Patrycja BrudziƄska arrived in Turku, Finland, on Monday. On Tuesday, they reviewed the care pathways of the Mobile Hospital application with technical expert Jami Aho, focusing particularly on ensuring the Polish text in the application was correct. On Wednesday morning, we worked with our Polish partners, focusing on guidance materials for parents. We discussed how to guide parents on supporting their child during hospital visits and various procedures. The Mobile Hospital application will include a parents’ room where parents can access information about child development and how it affects preparing children for hospital examinations and procedures.

Additionally, we discussed national seminars with the Polish partners, which we will organize in May. We covered how and where they will be held, who will be invited, and the possible program. In the afternoon, the project’s administrative project manager Tiina Rantamaa instructed us on project reports and schedules, as well as how to collect feedback from organizations and other stakeholders participating in the national seminar. Important feedback includes how the Mobile Hospital application may have impacted the organization’s new procedures or workflows and the benefits of participating in the project.

Meeting with Polish partners

Working with Polish partners

Our Swedish project partners Gunilla Lööf and Louise Kendrick arrived in Turku in the afternoon. Once all project partners were present, we discussed the current status of the mobile application with technical expert Jami Aho. We talked about how each partner would check the application’s usability and ensure the texts were in the correct place. We also discussed adding audio to the application, making it significantly easier to use and more suitable for children who cannot yet read. We agreed on how to review the care pathways and how to correct any errors we might find in the application.

In the afternoon, we continued discussing how to pilot the Mobile Hospital application and collect feedback from children’s parents, nurses who use or will use it, and especially the main target group, the children. The application will be evaluated in Poland, Sweden, and Finland. The evaluation will include group interviews with nurses to gather their opinions on how the application helps them in their work and in preparing children for various hospital examinations and procedures. Feedback from parents will be collected using the User Experience Questionnaire and a few open-ended questions. The open-ended questions will ask, for example, what were the best materials in the application, whether parents found it useful, and if they could use it with their child.

In the meeting

Of course, feedback will also be collected from the project’s most important target group, the children. The children will be interviewed in small groups in daycare settings. They will first be introduced to the application and then use it independently. During use, the children will be observed to see how they interact with it. Afterward, they will be interviewed, and the children will record their assessment of the application using the Fun Tool Kit Tool Smiley-o-meter and The Again Again table, indicating whether they would use it again.

On Thursday, we discussed the implementation of the pilot and the children’s observation form, which will be further discussed. We also discussed the program for national seminars and how and when they will be organized. Additionally, Thursday afternoon was reserved for our Swedish partners to review the Swedish care pathways with technical expert Jami Aho, checking the texts, images, and videos to ensure everything works correctly.

The finish line is in sight! The application is expected to be completed by the end of March. We can start piloting and evaluating the application in April. Stay tuned! 😊
