Liveability Design Approach showcased at 60th ISOCARP World Planning Congress
25 October 2024
Our project partner Gdansk University of Technology was thrilled to present our Liveability Design Approach at the recent 60th “Reinventing The (In)visible Cities” in the historic city of Siena, Italy. This congress brought together urban leaders, policy experts, and community advocates to explore new ways of making cities more liveable and responsive to 21st-century challenges.
Today, shifting work and life patterns offer cities both large and small a unique chance to enhance livability through a holistic, integrated approach to urban planning. By focusing on the built environment, fostering a culture of innovation, improving public services, and enriching socio-cultural life, cities can foster a strong sense of community and active citizenship. However, addressing these complex needs requires a fundamental rethinking of traditional policies and programme structures to create impactful solutions.
Our approach leverages Public Interest Design (PID), a methodology aimed at making cities, communities, and neighborhoods more vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive. By integrating design thinking into policy and planning, the program empowers city administrations—particularly in the Baltic Sea Region—to adopt more agile and responsive approaches in public services.
During the five-day event (8-12 Octpber), we engaged city and community leaders from around the globe through presentations, discussions, and workshops, showcasing how our program supports innovative city planning. By introducing the elements of Public Interest Design, we demonstrated how collaborative, design-driven approaches can help communities respond more effectively to the challenges of our evolving world.
