Gdynia hosted Three-Day Workshop

Building Inclusive Spaces for Everyone
How can we create inclusive spaces and deal with stereotypes? These pressing questions were at the heart of a three-day on-site intercultural communication training course held in Gdynia. Designed for professionals working with residents, the workshops aimed to enhance communication skills and foster cooperation in culturally diverse urban settings. Representatives from Gdynia’s Twin City, Krosno, added valuable insights by sharing their own experiences and approaches.
The training welcomed participants from key institutions such as the City Social Welfare Centre, the Gdynia Poviat Employment Office, and the Crisis Intervention Centre. Through interactive sessions, the workshops delved into the mechanisms of stereotypes and strategies for effective dialogue, emphasizing the importance of creating a city where everyone feels respected and safe.
“Intercultural communication is not only a working tool, but also the key to building a city where everyone feels respected and safe. Knowledge of the mechanisms of stereotypes and the ability to build dialogue allow us to create open and inclusive spaces. This is very important in Gdynia, a city that is developing dynamically and is open to people with an international history,” says Tomasz Augustyniak, Managing Director for Social Affairs at Gdynia City Hall.
Led by international experts from the Homo Faber Association, the workshops combined practical exercises with real-world case studies. Key topics included identifying and addressing stereotypes, refining communication practices, and resolving intercultural conflicts. Participants also explored successful models of social inclusion, such as the inspiring ‘Baobab’ initiative in Ljubljana, which demonstrates the power of community-driven diversity efforts.
The sessions not only provided theoretical knowledge but also created opportunities for hands-on learning and meaningful discussions. By addressing intercultural challenges, the workshops aimed to strengthen solidarity and understanding among Gdynia’s diverse population.
“These activities are crucial for equipping professionals with the tools to foster understanding and solidarity in their communities. By addressing intercultural challenges, we are building a more inclusive future,” emphasized Magdalena Żółkiewicz, Head of the Social Programs Department in Gdynia.
Beyond skill-building, the workshops served as a platform for networking and exchanging best practices, fostering a sense of collaboration among participants. Gdynia’s dedication to inclusivity and resilience shines through its commitment to these initiatives, ensuring a welcoming and respectful environment for all its residents.
