Discover the Lakes connect Project

CNBCh is the coordinator of the Lakes Connect project, which focuses on improving water quality in the lakes of the Baltic Sea region. The article highlights the stories of two small projects: Lakes connect and TRUST ALUM, both of which, despite modest budgets, bring significant benefits to the local communities.
Lakes Connect works to protect lakes in Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia from pollution related to tourism. Collaboration between scientists and local authorities yields tangible benefits. The project provides tools for identifying pollution sources and promotes green concepts such as green roofs and collaborative initiatives.

What challenges does TRUST ALUM address?

The TRUST ALUM project focuses on combating lake eutrophication caused by excess phosphorus from human activities. An innovative aluminum method, previously unknown in the Baltic countries, can significantly improve water clarity and limit the growth of aquatic vegetation. The project is coordinated by the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, a partner of CNBCh UW in the Lakes connect project.
