Testing of methods for sampling microplastics from sand on the beach and water surface in Latvia

06 April 2023
Technical details

At the end of March research assistant Valentina Burdukovska from the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology went to Kurzeme region in Latvia to test out microplastic sampling methods for beach sand and water surface, as well as to inform local inhabitants about the activities of Interreg Lakes Connect project.

The tested methods will be used later in May to take water and sand samples from lakes together with project partners in Gulbene municipality and later in Lithuania and Poland. For now we still have to wait for a slightly warmer weather since lakes in Gulbene are covered with ice and sand is frozen.
