GYPREG Workshops Inspire Students in Kraków
13 May 2026
On 10-12 March 2026, a total of 148 secondary school students took part in the educational workshops in Kraków, Poland. The series of workshops were organized by the Kraków Branch of the Institute of Technology and Life Sciences – National Research Institute (ITP-PIB) as part of the GYPREG project and the “Kuźnia Zawodowców” programme. The workshops combined theory with hands-on experiments, giving young participants an opportunity to learn about soil management, environmental protection, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Learning About Soil and Sustainable Agriculture
The workshops introduced students to the importance of the soil in agriculture and environmental protection: soil properties, methods for improving soil quality, and the role of scientific research in developing more sustainable farming practices.
Special attention was given to gypsum method and its potential use as a soil amendment supporting arable soil structure improvement. Experts from ITP-PIB also presented the objectives and activities of the GYPREG project and discussed both the benefits and limitations of gypsum application in agriculture.
Hands-on Soil Analysis
An important part of the workshops consisted of practical exercises that allowed students to gain first-hand experience with basic soil analysis methods. Participants carried out soil pH measurements, analysed soil aggregates, and explored different soil types under the guidance of researchers and educators.
The interactive format encouraged active participation and provided students with an opportunity to ask questions related to soil science, agriculture, and environmental protection.

Raising Environmental Awareness Among Young People
The workshops highlighted the importance of increasing environmental awareness among younger generations. By combining scientific knowledge with practical activities, the event aimed to encourage responsible attitudes towards soil and environmental stewardship.
The positive engagement of students during discussions and practical experiments demonstrated strong interest in sustainable agriculture and environmental topics among young people.
Through research, communication activities, and stakeholder engagement, the GYPREG project supports the development of environmentally responsible farming solutions.
