Strengthened Regional Collaboration with Laukaa Municipality
09 October 2025
In Central Finland, the GreenIndustrialAreas project continues to build momentum through regional cooperation. On March 20, 2025, the City of Jyväskylä and the Regional Council of Central Finland had the opportunity to visit Laukaa Municipality, where they presented the project to Kimmo Liimatainen, Spatial Development Manager of Laukaa. Cooperation has started since March 2025.
The first meeting focused on the criteria for sustainable and green industrial areas. A productive dialogue followed, centering on Laukaa’s strategic industrial zones: Laukaanportti and the Mörkökorpi project. These developments, spearheaded by the municipality, aim to promote green logistics, circular economy practices, and critical material reuse, while supporting regional economic growth and diversification.
As part of the collaboration, the Finnish project team shared its newly launched Toolbox with Laukaa on October 6, 2025. The Toolbox provides practical, tested solutions for energy efficiency and circular economy implementation in industrial areas.
Kimmo Liimatainen welcomed the resource, stating:
“We use the project’s ‘Toolbox’ in planning the development of our business areas Laukaanportti and Mörkökorpi. It contains several options and tested ideas for energy and circular economy solutions for industrial areas that support the green transition.”
Laukaa Municipality has expressed interest in following the outcomes of project and will continue to engage with the GreenIndustrialAreas project. They have also been invited to participate in the Finnish closing seminar, which will take place on December 11, 2025, in Jyväskylä, where final results and lessons learned will be discussed.
This collaboration highlights the importance of regional partnerships in accelerating the green transition and building resilient, future-ready industrial ecosystems.
