Technical details

The challenge of planning of industrial areas which will be functional, sustainable and energy efficient not only next year, but also 20 or 50 years from now is faced by several municipalities in their regional planning activities. The municipalities of Central Finland gathered on September 20th, 2023, in Jyväskylä to discuss and learn about energy efficient industrial areas, invited by Green Industrial Areas project and facilitated by two keynotes from Ramboll and the Jyväskylä municipality. It was recognized that the local energy operators and potential clients should be incorporated to the planning process already in the very early stages, so that the area plan will be an enabler for smart energy and sustainable solutions for energy management, mobility and circular economy.

Lintukangas planning process has been a truly new way of active collaboration between city departments and national organizations. The collaboration has enabled recognition of enablers and elimination of show stoppers for energy efficiency and circularity solutions in the upcoming plan. The representatives concluded that collaboration not only between the stakeholders of individual industrial parks, but also between the municipalities of Central Finland are essential for a greener future.
