Interview with Timi Tiira on the project's impact in Jyväskylä, Finland

28 May 2024
We talk with Timi Tiira, the City of Jyväskylä's project manager and coordinator of the project's Work package 2, about the certification of industrial areas and the perspectives of Finnish companies towards energy transition
Technical details

These days many companies voice complaints about overregulation especially in regard to environmental issues. Is energy transition still a priority for Finnish businesses?

Tiira: Energy transition is still a priority for Finnish businesses. Yet they do complain about the overregulation and the amount of documents to fill.

This being said, why should companies actively participate in the certification of the industrial area in which they are located?

Tiira: I believe that company representatives will see a value in being part of developing a new certificate and being a forerunner of this kind of development and green transition.

Speaking of being forerunners in green transition, how do you feel that Jyväskylä’s companies are performing in comparison to other Baltic countries?

Tiira: Generally speaking companies in Finland are performing very well on the Baltic and EU levels when it comes to the green transition. Especially the companies in Eteläportti and Lintukangas, as those areas have been branded as being sustainable areas. This branding has worked in getting companies that wish to be forerunners in sustainability to the areas.
