Technical details

Discussion rounds at schools in Germany are an excellent opportunity to bring the European idea closer to the younger generation. In particular, discussions with politicians, administration or institutions are intended to arouse the interest of students in European projects and deepen their understanding of the functioning of the European Union.

The Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, represented by State Secretary Ines Jesse and Interreg Project Manager Claudia Meier, was present at Pädagogium Schwerin for this year’s Europe project day on September 5th, 2023. Together with pupils, a simulation game on securing the energy supply in Europe was carried out, in which different teams exchanged ideas on the use of different types of energy. In particular, conflicts of interest in the use of renewable energies, advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power plants and exit from the coal industry were discussed.

At the end students received an overview of the Interreg project “GreenIndustrialAreas” and how such projects can receive funding from the European Union. All in all it was a successful morning in which all participants lived the idea of solidarity of the EU and the sense of community as Europeans.
