Technical details

On February 6, 2026, the City of Hamburg awarded the Hamburg Renovation Prize 2026 for Non-Residential Buildings, recognizing outstanding examples of energy-efficient modernization in the existing building stock. Under the patronage of Senator Katharina Fegebank, the award highlights innovative projects that actively contribute to climate protection and the heat transition.

The first prize in ‘Individual Measures’ went to Villa Bondenwald (Andreas Heller Architects & Designers). The winner in ‘Comprehensive Measures’ is the commercial hall at Sportallee 77 (SHK Fachunternehmen Holger Voigt), achieving strong CO₂ and primary energy reductions.

A total of 14 diverse projects were submitted, demonstrating that ambitious retrofits are feasible even under challenging conditions such as ongoing operations or monument protection.

The prize also aligns with the goals of the EU project “Easy Energy,” which develops simple and cost-effective energy-saving measures with a focus on SMEs. The submitted projects illustrate how existing buildings can become best-practice examples for climate-friendly renovation – whether through small, effective improvements or comprehensive modernization.

There are plans to present the award winners at the “Easy Energy” closing conference in Hamburg in September 2026, thus giving SMEs and project partners from the Baltic Sea region direct insight into these best-practice renovation projects.
