Advancing climate resilience through projects: City Blues and Life LATESTadapt met in Tallinn
27 March 2026
When two projects have much in common, it makes sense to take the time to share lessons learned. In March, City Blues organised a meeting in Tallinn with the Life LATESTadapt project, which is developing nature-based and smart solutions for climate resilience.
Both projects gave presentations, shared their achievements, and presented their pilots. We also discussed the lessons learned from the NBS pilots and worked together to draft messages for decision-makers regarding project funding, for example.
City Blues partner TalTech presented the concept of the NBS model. While there is a wealth of material available to municipalities, the model distils the essentials. One essential aspect is that the catchment should be used as the planning unit for nature-based solutions. The NBS model is based on numerous meetings, reports, stories of transformation, pilot projects, and their evaluations and monitoring campaigns.
At the end of the first day, we had the opportunity to visit NBS sites in Tallinn and the neighbouring municipality of Viimsi. Some of them were pilot sites for the Life LATESTadapt project, while others were part of the Interreg Central Baltic funded MUSTBE project. Site visits provide a better understanding of the various solutions, their requirements, and their suitability for replication in one’s own city.
The second day was dedicated to the City Blues project partners to further develop the joint operational model, NBS model. We refined the structure and content and agreed on the division of labour and the schedule. The end of the project is in sight, so the finalisation phase of the model will begin soon.
