What does circular economy mean to students at VESK vocational school?
This spring, in cooperation with the Interreg Aurora “GenGreen” and “Baltic Green Leadership” Vilnius VESK project teams, Jennifer Avci, founder of Sustainable Gastro, coordinated and facilitated a series of capacity building activities for a bigger group of students from various studies between the ages 16-23.
The aim was to help them understand better what circular economy means from theory to practice, focusing on sustainable and circular business models.
Through the digital webinars, various experts presented circular design principles, innovative start-up business ideas, marketing strategies and how to get started. This helped the students to get acquainted with sustainable and circular business models, innovations and best practices from the Nordic and Baltic countries. They explored how businesses can create value for both the environment and society, exploring the role of marketing and communication in driving sustainable change.
In the practical workshops, students had the opportunity to test social and circular business models, discuss their application in real life and seek creative solutions. It also helped them to open up for working in mixed groups where they don’t know each other, and be more prepared for the hackathons they signed up for. This was a good exercise for them to step out of their comfort zone and learn to collaborate for the common goal.
What have we achieved? Thanks to the cross-sector cooperation and the active participation of youth – together we create a more sustainable and circular future!
