XR Game Jam: A Great Success!

Interreg BSG-Go! orchestrated a dynamic two-day multi-location hybrid event for game developers with a keen interest in XR on May 30-31. Game jams are high-energy gatherings where participants race against the clock to develop a game based on a specific theme. For the XR Game Jam, the theme was ‘Cooperation,’ designed to foster collaboration among countries within the Baltic Sea Region. With just two workdays to bring their visions to life, participants plunged into an intense yet enriching experience, many exploring XR game development for the very first time.

The event kicked off with a bang, featuring two enlightening talks from industry experts Vladimir Rannik and Anthony Vitillo. They delved into the latest trends and technologies in VR and Mixed Reality gaming, offering participants invaluable insights into the future of the industry.

Spanning across multiple vibrant locations – the Helsinki XR Center, Poznan University in collaboration with the Game Industry Conference, DE:HIVE Berlin, and Game Habitat in Malmö – the jam was a hub of creativity and innovation. The enthusiastic response from participants has already ignited plans for a sequel event next year. Gathering nearly one hundred XR game enthusiasts was a notable achievement, underscoring the growing interest in this cutting-edge field.

The climax of the event saw game developers voting for their favorite creations. It was awe-inspiring to witness the incredible games crafted in such a brief period. The top four teams, whose games garnered the most votes, were rewarded with Indie tickets to the prestigious Game Industry Conference in Poland. This vibrant, collaborative event truly showcased the extraordinary talent and potential within the XR game development community.
