European Maritime Days 2024
06 June 2024
Blue Supply Chains exhibited together with four Interreg projects (intermediate) results and activities in the field of a sustainable blue economy during the European Maritime Days!
The joint stand “Interreg(ional) cooperation supporting the sustainable blue economy!” provided visitors with insights and latest results from these maritime transport projects.
On this year’s European Maritime Day, sustainability & blue economy are the core topics. In maritime industry, ports play a vital role, serving as gateways for trade and economic development. Ports are not only important for traditional cargo transportation, but also have a significant impact on marine living and non-living resources, renewable energy, coastal tourism, etc. Challenges like sustainability, green transformation and digitalization are crucial for port authorities to address.
A lot of visitors stopped by our stand #32Â and talked with the exhibitors and lead partners of following projects:
- Blue Supply Chains (lead partner: Port of Hamburg Marketing | Interreg North Sea Region Programme) focuses on the greening process in port operations, through provision of alternative fuels (bunkering & charging strategy) & green transport chains (combined transport).
- Green Supply Chains (lead partner: Port of Hamburg Marketing | Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme) focuses on green fuel- & electrification strategies from (inland) ports & greening strategies from regions affected by port hinterland freight traffic.
- REDII Ports (lead partner: Port of Skagen Marketing | Interreg North Sea Region Programme) focuses on exploiting resources for a technically feasible & economically affordable generation, storage & consumption of cleaner energy & fuels with specific reference to 5 alternatives promoted by the REDII 2018/200 & AFID 2014/94 Directives, relevant to port communities.
- Shore Power In European Shipping – SPIESÂ (lead partner: Provincial development agency POM Limburg Marketing | Interreg North Sea Region Programme) focuses on bringing together stakeholders to develop a policy recommendation plan that will be delivered & introduced to policy levels to coordinate the roll out of Shore Side Electricity in the North Sea Region.
- Develop Innovative Offshore Logistics – DIOLÂ (lead partner: Airport of Esbjerg | Interreg North Sea Region Programme) acknowledges the significance of establishing the necessary logistics infrastructure to ensure the success of multiple interconnected offshore RE projects and hubs.
It was a great opportunity to exchange viewpoints about solutions developed and about potential future deployment of results.
The lead partner organisation of the projects Blue Supply Chains and Green Supply Chains (Port of Hamburg Marketing) participated at the workshop session ‘‘Ports development for sustainable blue economy’’, organised by DG Mare. Port of Hamburg and port of Venice were taken as example. Stefan Breitenbach and Inga Gurries from Hafen Hamburg Marketing presented their individual experience of promoting the sustainable development of ports. Last but not least, they shared its journey and experience to become a sustainable energy hub. Projects such as Blue Supply Chains, Green Supply Chains, SPIES and REDII Ports play an important role of bringing together stakeholders, enabling fruitful discussions between them and leading to actions to find best possible solutions. They have been promoted during the workshop session. In addition, the importance of ports in the context of the energy transition and in the development of green (maritime) corridors was pointed out and discussed with a lively audience.
Maybe green maritime corridor development will be on next years agenda of EMDs 2025 – stay tuned!
