Promoting Sustainable Logistics with Trelleborgs Hamn

19 May 2025
Trelleborgs Hamn, a key partner in the Blue Supply Chains project, recently demonstrated innovative hydrogen technology to promote sustainable port operations.
Technical details

On May 14, 2025, Trelleborgs Hamn hosted a demonstration of the SM42-6Dn hydrogen locomotive, developed by PESA Bydgoszcz S.A., in collaboration with VÄTE Bolagen AB and Blue Supply Chains at their intermodal terminal.

This event, part of the Blue Supply Chains project, showcased technology to reduce carbon emissions in port operations through alternative fuels and electrification. Ulf Sonesson introduced the project’s objectives, followed by Maciej Grześkowiak from Pesa, who presented the locomotive’s advanced fuel cell technology. Attendees experienced a test ride on the quiet, efficient hydrogen locomotive, a key step toward greener transport chains.

The SM42-6Dn, powered by two 85 kW hydrogen fuel cells with a 30-minute refueling time, is the first of 25 locomotives set to replace diesel models in Swedish freight transport. Väte Rail, a train operator at Trelleborgs Hamn, plans to phase out all 20 diesel locomotives by 2030, aiming for carbon neutrality.

We are proud to collaborate with Trelleborgs Hamn to drive sustainable transport solutions across the Baltic Sea Region.
