Blue Green Bio Lab participates in the launch of Mission Ocean Baltic and North Sea (BANOS)

On the 25th and 26th of April the European Commission held an exciting event to focus on political commitments to implement EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”, and agree on concrete measures and actions in the Baltic North Sea basin, particularly to make the blue economy carbon-neutral and circular.

The event Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”: The Baltic and North Sea lighthouse in action, was held in Hamburg, Germany. The EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” aims for the protection and restoration of the health of our ocean and waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and blue investments bu 2030.

The Blue Green Bio Lab project has endorsed the Ocean Mission Charter and 2 project partners attended the event.
Partner Lysekil Municipality was represented by Anna Gunnäs who, along with partner organisation Viable Seas, is deeply involved in the work of BlueMissionBANOS.
BlueMissionBANOS is one of 4 lighthouses of the Ocean Mission established to support regional engagement and cooperation through area-based “lighthouses” in major sea/river basins. The Mission’s new approach will address the ocean and waters as one and play a key role in achieving climate neutrality and restoring nature.

University partner in the Blue Green Bio Lab project, the Latvian Institute for Aquatic Ecology was represented by senior researcher Anda Ikauniece. Anda is involved in several Interreg projects focusing on blue bioeconomy and is an active member of the SUBMARINER network.
