BEACH-SOS Workshop Brings Coastal Stakeholders Together in Saulkrasti
On July 29th, the BEACH-SOS project hosted a pivotal workshop in Saulkrasti, Latvia, where key stakeholders came together to shape the future of coastal tourism. Representatives from Vidzeme Tourism Association, Local Action Group Coastal Nature Protection, Latvian Nature Tourism Association, Local Action Group Jūras Zeme (Sea Land), Tourism department at Saulkrasti Municipality, and Climate Service Center Germay participated in this collaborative effort.
During the workshop, participants analysed the shared vision that coastal communities had drafted for tourism in 2050. Their discussions ain at drafting a roadmap for creating a sustainable and thriving coastal community. Recognising the challenges posed by climate change, the project plans to organise a follow-up workshop in October, bringing together local residents and climate experts.
In addition to engaging with stakeholders, BEACH-SOS fostered a partnership with local scientists from the Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre. This collaboration aims to strengthen the project’s scientific foundation and inform decision-making processes.
BEACH-SOS remains committed to equipping Saulkrasti and other Baltic coastal towns with the necessary tools to address climate-related challenges. By uniting community members, businesses, and local government, the project strives to preserve the natural beauty and economic prosperity of the region for generations to come.
