Inauguration at Aarhus University, Herning

Technical details

On February 19th, the inauguration of the new campus environment at Aarhus University, Herning,
became a reality! After months of rebuilding and relocating the AU Library, Herning, we could finally
open the doors to the students again.

The day was festive and fun, and many people came by to see the new library and enjoy some cake.
The library had to downsize, but with the help of architects, the new environment accommodates a
wide range of facilities, including numerous books, group workspaces, data lab facilities, teaching
areas, printing services, and space for the Materials Library.
Another significant change has been the relocation to a more visible location on the main floor
making the library more accessible to students as well as patrons who may not be familiar with
campus.

The library has a cozy atmosphere, featuring hanging plants, organic materials such as wooden end
walls on the bookshelves, and a green colour scheme. Many of the students’ wishes have been taken
into account.

Students have been able to use the library since mid-January, and many have expressed positive
feedback about the new space. A more thorough evaluation of the space will take place in late
March. We need to give the students some time to use the new facilities before we conduct an
evaluation.

With the opening, we also launched the new “Materials Library.” With this, we have expanded the
types of materials available in the library and made it possible to explore various materials such as
metal, steel, plastic, and a diverse range of other materials. Having access to a Materials Library
makes good sense for the Business Engineers studying in Herning. The Materials Library was made
possible by help from our associated partner, Aarhus University. Here an educator helped us move
and structure the material from a secluded place on campus to a more visible place in the library.
