Baltic Sea e-Nav’s Second Pilot Sessions
16 October 2025
The second round of Pilot sessions were held at the maritime bridge simulator at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) as part of the Baltic Sea e-Nav project. This round of testing focused on voyage planning and the practical use of the S-100 series data products, including S-101 (ENC), S-102 (bathymetric surface), S-104 (water level), and S-111 (surface currents).
Unlike the first pilot sessions, which primarily focused on comparing S-57 and S-101 and included only the new S-102, this round allowed participants to test the expanded suite of S-100 products, providing a more complete picture of how these datasets can support real-world navigation.
Three sessions offered valuable insights into how the products perform in practical voyage planning across different scenarios and user perspectives. Participants planned and executed simulated voyages, exploring how the combination of S-101, S-102, S-104, and S-111 can enhance decision-making and situational awareness at sea.
The feedback collected will be used to refine the products’ usability, ensuring that the tools meet the needs of end users and are ready for operational application. These pilot sessions mark a key milestone in Baltic Sea e-Nav’s mission to advance safe, efficient, and sustainable digital navigation solutions in the Baltic Sea region.
