Exploring AI-Powered Solutions for Smarter Cities – Webinar Recap
26 February 2025
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR) transform how cities engage with citizens and enhance urban experiences. In our recent webinar, we explored two innovative AI-driven solutions designed to improve public services:
- A Participatory Budgeting App – empowering residents to contribute to decision-making processes.
- A Tourism & Information App – enriching the city experience for both locals and visitors.
Key Insights & Expert Perspectives
The event opened with an introduction to the 3I Solution for PS project by Katriin Vannik (LUT University, Finland), setting the stage for a thought-provoking discussion on AI’s role in public services. Dr. Magdalena Cicharska (Warsaw School of Economics, Poland) then addressed a critical question: AI and XR in public services—threat or opportunity?
Following this, the AR-GO LAB team showcased live demos of both applications, illustrating their real-world impact:
- CITYA! for Participatory Budgeting – a case study from Radom, Poland, demonstrating how digital tools can foster civic engagement.
- CITYA! for Tourism – applied in Smiltene, Latvia, highlighting how AI-powered solutions can enhance tourism and accessibility.
The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A segment, providing space for discussion and future opportunities in AI-powered public services.
Strong Engagement & Next Steps
The webinar attracted 50+ engaged participants, with 74 registrations from various sectors. After the event, all attendees received access to the webinar recording, ensuring knowledge-sharing beyond the live session.
The conversation doesn’t stop here as AI and XR continue to reshape urban innovation. All registered participants were invited to pilot their cities, municipalities, and organisations. If your organisation is interested, contact us at katriin.vannik@lut.fi.
