Trondheim Sustainable Food System, Norway
02 June 2025
Trondheim Municipality and Trøndelag County worked with a variety of local actors to promote sustainable local food system in Trondheim. In transition arena workshops stakeholders identified key challenges in the local food system, created a shared vision and co-created actions to drive the change. About 30 stakeholders participated in the workshops, including representatives from Trondheim Municipality, Trøndelag County Municipality, local NGOs, farmers, food distributors, retailers and community organisations.
Key results included a vision document outlining a clear roadmap for change and an action plan. Several pilot projects were initiated to enhance awareness of sustainable local food system, promote the use of local food and encourage community engagement. These include a Food Competency Center, an urban farming program, and promoting sustainable food knowledge in education. Other pilots, such as the Neighborhood Long Table and efforts to increase diversity at the Trøndersk Food Festival, help strengthen communities and foster cooperation.
