06 May 2025
Technical details

The Lääne-Harju transition arena focused on advancing sustainability in education by addressing environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and student well-being. It was part of the municipality’s Green School initiative and played a key role in shaping the Lääne-Harju Education Strategy 2025–2030.

The transition arena process included three full-day workshops with 33 participants representing a diverse group of stakeholders, such as school and kindergarten principals, university representatives, NGOs, mental health specialists, and local government employees.

As a key outcome, the transition arena contributed several proposals to the Lääne-Harju Education Strategy 2025–2030. Concrete results of the process include expanding sustainable meal options in schools, implementing continuous waste sorting, improving energy efficiency in educational institutions, and offering environmental training for both teachers and students. Practical activities, such as repair workshops and biodiversity excursions, will also be introduced.

Some ideas such as redefining the role of class teachers to better support student well-being will be further developed through co-creation. The municipality will lead the implementation through working groups. The process has also strengthened stakeholder collaboration, supporting long-term impact and commitment.
