Cross-sectoral Sustainability Arena in Gdynia, Poland

08 May 2025
Technical details

The Gdynia Cross-sectoral Sustainability Arena focused on three main topics to enhance dialogue and cooperation between local actors and the City: (1) green urban spaces, (2) improved waste management practices, and (3) mapping existing sustainable initiatives in the city.

The transition arena included three workshops with around 50 local actors, including NGOs, City Hall employees, city councillors, business owners, individuals and youth representatives.

The main result of the transition arena is a pilot aimed at reducing single-use items by creating a shared dishware depot for public events. Citizens will be encouraged to donate reusable plates and utensils, which will be available for rental by event organizers, food vendors, and community groups. A report summarizing all the ideas developed during the arena was also submitted to the City Council, offering a broader roadmap for future sustainability initiatives.

The transition arena was valuable in strengthening local networks, fostering collaboration, and providing a platform for meaningful discussions, with the pilot project now serving as a practical test of the city’s commitment to sustainability.
