Ādaži County Municipal Agency – Carnikavas komunālserviss – Ādaži, Latvia
The public swimming pool facility managed by Ādaži County Municipal Agency’s communal services body (Carnikavas komunālserviss), located at Pirmā Street 26a in Ādaži, Latvia, and constructed in 1986, implemented the installation of a swimming pool cover with the support of an Energy Practioncionner who participated in the Easy Energy Energy Practicioneer Training Programme. This measure directly addresses one of the most significant sources of energy and moisture loss in indoor aquatic facilities – the open water surface – by reducing evaporation, retaining heat, and limiting the release of humidity into the surrounding indoor environment.
The project was completed within 12 weeks, required no specific expertise, and encountered no safety concerns or implementation challenges, making it one of the most accessible energy efficiency interventions available to facilities of this type.
The total investment was fully self-financed. The measure is estimated to generate between €500 and €1,000 in annual savings, with full payback expected within 2- 3 years. Beyond the financial returns, the installation has delivered a notable qualitative benefit – a measurable reduction in indoor humidity levels – which contributes to a healthier indoor environment, reduces the risk of moisture-related damage to the building fabric, and improves overall comfort for both staff and users. The institution would consider implementing a similar solution again in the future.
