Summer School on Advanced Technologies for Water Treatment

Project: AdvIQwater
Virtual Meeting & Physical Meeting
  • Date & Time
    24. June - 01. July 2025
    - (BST)
  • Organiser
    Gdansk University of Technology

Description

Worldwide, the number of people living along the coast is rapidly increasing, resulting in increased wastewater discharges, which is a major source of emerging pollutants such as microplastics, heavy metals, and active pharmaceutical ingredients entering aquatic environments. Environmental pollution by these pollutants has become a serious problem in the Baltic Sea Region.

The summer school aims to showcase the work and ideas to increase the efficiency of emerging pollutants removal in surface waters by using advanced oxidation technologies combined with biofilms and fungal treatment. The case studies, laboratories, and technological solutions will be implemented within the course.

Expected learning outcomes: Knowledge of the current state of water pollution and the importance of handling emerging pollutant problems through advanced treatment technologies. Knowledge in the field of technological innovation in water treatment.
Learning Opportunity Structure: Online lectures (15h) in June + in-person classes (20h - not obligatory) regarding advanced oxidation processes, biofilms treatment with case studies, fungal treatment, and Anamox processes with case studies, laboratories + a trip to the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
