Description
In the framework of the Annual Forum 2024, the Interreg BSR project “Liveability” will organised a joint seminar with the VASAB Secretariat and UBC Planning Cities Commission.
Cities in the Baltic Sea Region have to manage various transition processes and are looking for solutions to these challenges. At the same time they strive to be attractive place to live and work in – in short: liveable cities. To achieve this, city administrations should rethink the way in which they approach urban planning and public service delivery, for instance by working in a more design-oriented way.
In this context, the Interreg project ‘Liveability – Designing Public Services for Resilient Neighbourhoods’ supports local public authorities by introducing public interest design as a guiding principle for urban planning and public service provision. Drawing on practical experiences from Riga and Gdynia, the seminar will showcase how the notion of liveability can be integrated both strategically and within specific neighbourhood projects.
The seminar will
- Engage participants in a discussion about what makes their cities liveable right now and in the future
- Introduce the ‘Charter for Designing the Liveable City’ and explore public interest design as a possible path towards enhanced liveability
- Feature the launch the ‘liveable cities’ label and network, a joint endeavour of the ‘Liveability’ project and the Union of Baltic Cities
- Outline potential future actions envisaged by the VASAB Vision 2040 for cities and towns striving to become more liveable.
