The GIA Peer Review Visit to Lübesse brought together transnational stakeholders to exchange knowledge and insights on advancing sustainable industrial areas. Participants included representatives from the Podlaska Regional Development Foundation (Poland), Zemgale Planning Region (Latvia), the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (Latvia), the City of Jyväskylä and Fluiconnecto (Finland), and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism, and Labour Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). The event was organized by Naturwind Schwerin GmbH.
The visit commenced at Agp Lübesse Agrarproduktgesellschaft mbH , where participants were welcomed and briefed on the day’s agenda. Mr. Engel, the mayor of Lübesse, provided an insightful overview of the industrial area’s history and vision for future developments. Key presentations highlighted innovative projects such as the planned Power-to-X plant and Aqua Farm in Lübesse.
The group toured AGP’s biogas and combined heat and power plant, gaining firsthand insights into sustainable energy production. This was followed by a drive-through tour of the industrial area, showcasing its diverse companies, operational wind and photovoltaic plants, and planned expansions. The first day concluded with a transfer to the Parchim Industrial Area, organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism, and Labour.
The second day focused on workshops held at the 19th-century Castle Schwerin. Discussions revolved around overcoming challenges in certification processes for the Lübesse industrial area, improving stakeholder communication, and exploring engagement strategies within the GIA framework. The collaborative session provided an opportunity to address critical obstacles and share best practices for enhancing the sustainability and functionality of Green Industrial Areas.
This peer review visit facilitated meaningful dialogue, practical learning, and strengthened transnational collaboration towards a greener industrial future.
