On October 23rd and 24th, Jyväskylä hosted a peer review visit as part of the Green Industrial Areas project. Project partners from Poland, Denmark, Germany, and Latvia travelled to Jyväskylä to observe pilot actions and share insights.
The two-day program included visits to the Meltex factory in Lintukangas and the Woodspin factory, a joint operation between Spinnova and Suzano, in Eteläportti. Meltex, a plastics producer, presented their current sustainability status, future plans, and challenges in meeting ESG targets. At Woodspin, participants learned about Spinnova's innovative technology, which produces textile fiber from cellulose without chemicals, recycles most of the water used, and captures waste heat.
Workshops were a key component of the visit, focusing on pilot actions, certification improvement, and guidebook development. Sitowise, the consultant for certificate piloting in Jyväskylä, hosted one workshop, while the City of Jyväskylä organized another, with participation from local stakeholders including Alva Group and DB Santasalo.
The visit was marked by productive discussions and valuable insights, contributing to the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable industrial practices. We had 17 participants from representatives of the following organizations:
- Podlaska Regional Development Foundation
- Municipality of Kalundborg
- Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour Mecklenburg Western Pomerania
- Zemgale Planning Region
- City of Jyväskylä
- Regional Council of Central Finland
- VTT
- Meltex
- Alva Group
- DB Santasalo
