Event Announcement: Joint Hybrid Workshop on Circular Bio-Waste Management 

We are pleased to announce a joint online workshop organized by the FoodLoops project and the HOOP Bio-Waste Club in Kuopio, scheduled for February 13th between 09:00 and 11:00. 

Workshop Objective: The aim of this workshop is to facilitate knowledge sharing between the two projects regarding technological innovations, social innovations, and capacity building in bio-waste management within schools. The Bio-Waste Club in Kuopio serves as an open space where stakeholders—including academic and scientific institutions, businesses, municipalities, and waste management companies—regularly engage to develop a shared vision for transforming their city into a more circular economy. 

The FoodLoops project fosters cooperation among schools, caterers (SMEs), farmers, and professionals in a circular economy to enhance biowaste separation at the source, minimize food waste, and repurpose it as organic compost. 

Featured Speakers: The workshop will feature speakers from both projects. The managers of both projects will highlight the aims and accomplishments of their respective initiatives toward supporting bio-waste valorisation. They will discuss innovative strategies, successful case studies, and the impact of their work on sustainability and resource recovery. Key participants will include: 

  • Gasum Biogas Refineries (Finland): Presenting sorting and treatment methods for bio-waste in collaboration with schools. 
  • FoodLoops Project Partners: Representatives from the Lithuanian Consumer Institute, Gdansk Municipality (Poland), and Savonia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) will showcase their initiatives to improve bio-waste valorization within the FoodLoops project. 
  • Jätekukko: A municipally owned service company will present their training, guidelines and best practices for biowaste sorting in schools.

  • Members of the Bio-Waste Club in Kuopio 
  • International students and experts in the fields of bio-waste and circular food systems 
  • Participants and associates of the FoodLoops project 
  • Relevant stakeholders
