BATS @ ICSC 2024

Project: BATS
Physical Meeting

Description

In November 2024, BATS lead partner Heike Bunte (Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg- Borough of Altona) travelled to Imabari, Japan for the International Cycling Safety Conference.

Organised by the International Cycling Safety Committee and enjoying its 12th edition, the conference is a forum for researchers and experts in the field of cycling safety to exchange their knowledge and explore new questions and safety solutions. The conference theme for 2024 was "Exploring Cycling Safety Culture."

During the conference, Heike showcased the BATS project during an insightful presentation and many thought-provoking discussions.

Reflecting on the experience, Heike commented:

"One might think that our BATS topics might fit even better here, but dark time cycling and bad weather conditions are everywhere! All over the world! Cycling fosters inclusiveness and contributes towards the avoidance of mobility poverty. As an equal means of transport, we should guarantee that everybody can cycle safely in all weather and dark time conditions"

BATS will contribute to these concepts throughout the coming years through additional research into opportunities for year-round active mobility, several impactful pilot activities, and continuous engagement with key stakeholders with the ability to turn our visions to reality, including practitioners, planners, and many more.
