OÜ Kalevi Veekeskus (Kalev SPA & Hotel) – Tallinn, Estonia
Kalev SPA & Hotel, a private hotel and SPA facility in Tallinn, Estonia, implemented a broad package of energy efficiency measures across multiple areas of the building over several phases. The measures included smart thermostats, efficient LED lighting, lighting control systems, aerators and sensor water faucets, window seal replacements, and adjustments to cooling and heating regulation in hotel rooms. Alongside these technical upgrades, the facility also actively raised employee awareness around simple behavioural changes, such as turning off floor heating when not needed. External experts were involved in the implementation, with basic safety considerations followed throughout.
The total investment came to approximately €6,000, fully self-financed, and is estimated to generate around €5,000 in annual savings — though the full payback is expected to take more than 3 years given the scale of works. Beyond financial returns, the implementation has led to increased comfort for guests and staff. The facility would recommend this approach to others, with a key piece of advice: start with the simplest, lowest-cost measures first — the “low-hanging fruit” – before moving on to more complex interventions, in order to maximise early returns with minimal investment.
