Combination of Practice and Science
The agenda covered experiences and research results from several Baltic Sea region countries carried out within the GYPREG project in Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, and Poland. The presentation highlighted regional cooperation and knowledge exchange aiming at promoting effective phosphorus reduction measures in agriculture.
Participants also reviewed the results of a nationwide survey conducted among Polish farmers and agricultural advisors. The survey examined practical experiences, awareness, and perceptions related to gypsum use in farming. In addition, preliminary research findings on gypsum’s impact on soil condition and phosphorus loss reduction were presented.
The event concluded with an active discussion among participants, underlining growing interest in practical, science-based solutions that support both sustainable agriculture and healthier waters in the Baltic Sea region. Invited experts have expressed interest and appreciation for the project’s concept, process, and results. Major implementation barriers were identified, such as gypsum purchase costs and insufficient knowledge dissemination, and the need for additional studies.
