NonHazCity3 outcomes showcased at the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2026
13 May 2026
The EUSBSR Annual Forum is one of the key annual gatherings for cooperation and policy dialogue in the Baltic Sea Region. The forum brings together representatives from municipalities, ministries, EU institutions, NGOs, researchers and practitioners to exchange experiences and develop joint solutions for shared regional challenges, including sustainability, climate action and environmental protection.
Project Manager Normunds Vagalis introduced the project’s key achievements and highlighted how NonHazCity3 contributed to reducing hazardous substances in construction and renovation across the Baltic Sea Region. The project developed and tested practical solutions to support tox-free, circular and climate-friendly building practices, bringing together municipalities, experts, businesses and residents from eight countries.
Visitors to the booth explored an animated presentation showcasing the project’s main outcomes and ready-to-use tools. These included guidance materials for municipalities and professionals, training resources, fact sheets, procurement support, the Building Materials Catalogue, and practical tools for safer renovation and construction decisions. The project also demonstrated through pilot activities that low-pollutant, circular and climate-neutral construction is already technically feasible today.
Although the project has officially come to an end, its results continue to live on through the practical tools, guidance materials and tested approaches developed during the collaboration. By sharing and replicating these outcomes across regions and sectors, NonHazCity3 continues to support healthier buildings, safer material cycles and more sustainable construction practices far beyond the project lifetime.
