Rzeszów municipality is exploring pathways towards local energy democracy!
09 April 2026
Rzeszów municipality is located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship in South-Eastern Poland. Rzeszów is one of the five cities in Poland selected within the EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 and has been actively exploring and developing hydrogen technologies. The key element of the overall energy transition has been the smartification of the energy grid to enable decentralized renewable energy generation and storage. The Enercracy project will support the improvement of the Municipal Adaptation Plan, particularly focusing on:
– Enabling energy community development,
– Fostering prosumerism and collaboration between different actors,
– Supporting the transition to low-carbon and energy-efficient district heating systems,
– Developing the blue-green infrastructure,
– Developing more resilient renewable energy and urban infrastructures,
– Improving local air quality.
Subsequently, these and other elements of the climate and energy planning will be addressed within a diverse group of practitioners and local representatives. Follow the journey of the Rzeszów municipality in developing the Municipal Adaptation Plan!
As the Enercracy project moves into its second year, the theoretical becomes practical. During the next twelve months, the knowledge compiled in the Draft Model Catalogue of Measures for Energy Plans will be actively used to develop or update municipal climate and energy plans to enable energy communities and prosumerism, as well as to upscale the use of renewable energy. This article series highlights each municipality participating in piloting the Catalogue to enable local energy democracies. Rzeszów municipality, together with the Rzeszów Regional Development Agency and the Polish National Work Group, developed within the Enercracy project, is responsible for developing the Rzeszów Adaptation Plans.
