Final stop Tallinn: Hydrogen-powered truck completes its baltic airport pilot tour
07 April 2026
Tallinn Airport marks the final stop of the hydrogen-powered Hyzon heavy-duty truck, completing a series of pilots across the Baltic Sea region as part of the BSR HyAirport project. With previous tests conducted in Helsinki, Riga and Kaunas, the trial in Tallinn represents a further important milestone in advancing hydrogen-powered airport operations.
The pilot at Tallinn Airport focused on evaluating the suitability of hydrogen technology for heavy‑duty airport operations, as well as its reliability, usability, cost efficiency and infrastructure requirements. Early insights confirm that the technology performs well in cold climate conditions and is well suited for airport-specific operations.

Tallinn Airport also welcomed colleagues from the Green Deal Stargate programme, who visited the site to exchange knowledge and explore the results of the BSR HyAirport activities. Both initiatives, supported by EU funding programmes, demonstrate the value of cross-border cooperation in accelerating the transition toward sustainable aviation.
As the final pilot location, Tallinn Airport plays a crucial role in transforming hydrogen from a future concept into a practical solution for sustainable ground operations at airports.
