This online training, organised within the CCC-2 project, focuses on hazardous chemicals in everyday products procured by municipalities and their impacts on human health and the environment. While climate and circularity aspects are increasingly addressed in green public procurement, chemicals often receive less attention and are less well understood. This session aims to close that gap.
The lecture will introduce the most common chemical substances and substance groups found in municipal procurement, with practical examples from everyday articles and products. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of how chemicals relate to procurement decisions and why they matter from both a health and environmental perspective.
The training will cover:
How to understand and address chemicals in public procurement
The most important groups of chemicals of concern and why they are problematic
Typical procurement categories where hazardous chemicals are commonly found
The impacts of these chemicals on human health and the environment
How chemical considerations can be better integrated into CCC-aligned procurement practices
The session is designed for procurement officers, environmental experts and other municipal staff involved in purchasing decisions who want to strengthen their competence on chemical safety within CCC-2 and beyond.
